Catholic Mission Of Evangelization September/October 2004 Dear Friends, We recently received a note from a man named Ted who worked for a video company we use to duplicate our video courses. Some of the video tapes were defective and we sent them back for replacement. Ted was responsible for viewing the tapes in search of the problem. Ted had been involved in non- Christian religions for his entire adult life (he is in his 50’s) until the time he reviewed our video teachings. As he viewed the videos, Ted experienced conversion and gave his life in commitment to the Lord Jesus. Have you noticed how God will use anything, -including messed up videotapes - to reach out to those who don’t know His Love! The Lord was just looking for an opportunity to reveal himself to Ted. Our God is eager to show mercy to all and wants us as missionaries to give Him the chance! Ted wrote: Please join us in prayer and ask the Lord to multiply our efforts to equip Catholics to become missionaries of the Good News. Your prayers are essential to the work of this apostolate. We greatly appreciate your financial contributions as well. We cannot do the work of this apostolate without you! We are fellow missionaries with you in the privileged task of making Jesus known, loved and served in the Catholic Church.
WHO WILL GO FOR ME? WHOM SHALL I SEND? DIANNE MARTIN Here I am Lord. Send me On D-day 1944, Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. Each soldier resolved to do his part to bring freedom to those held captive. Armies of soldiers were ready to lay down their lives in response to Uncle Sam’s call. Today there is a need of gravest urgency! More catastrophic than poverty, corrupt government, AIDS, cancer, or weather-related disasters, people are in desperate need to hear Good News of their liberation through Jesus Christ our Lord. It's D-day 2004 and God delivers his people from sin and guilt, fear and hopelessness, resentment and bitterness, independence and lack of purpose. It is a season of deliverance, a time of liberation if only there would be an army of missionaries who resolve to lay down their lives for the sake of the call. There is no question about the outcome. Jesus laid down his life on the battleground for eternity and brought to us the crown of victory. The captives have been set free. Who will carry this Good News to them? “The conditions of the society in which we live oblige all of us therefore to revise methods, to seek by every means to study how we can bring the Christian message to modern man. For it is only in the Christian message that modern man can find the answer to his questions and the energy for his commitment of human solidarity.” Pope Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi, #3 Christ is striving by every means possible to train Catholics how to bring the message of Christianity into our everyday encounters. Our WITNESS+WORD course equips individuals to communicate their faith beliefs to those who have not heard the Gospel message. CHRISTLIFE’s one-day seminar, Building Evangelizing Eucharistic Communities, prepares a parish or small group to mobilize for the mission of evangelization. The prophet Isaiah responded to God’s call after the Lord described the spiritual devastation of His chosen people. The children of Israel behaved like rebels. They had thrown aside the commands of the Lord and become slaves to their passions and desires. Nevertheless God in his great mercy and faithfulness cries out “Whom shall I send and who will go for us?” Then Isaiah said, “Here I am! Send me.” Several thousand years have passed, but the condition of humanity remains the same. We are stricken by sin in every way, slaves of self-decadence who have rebelled against God. We have lost or never known our true position as sons and daughters of a loving Father. The Lord Jesus desires for us to carry on the mission for which He came. He has called us to be disciples who actively engage in the realities of our culture and use every opportunity to bring the message of Christianity to everyone we meet and put it into practice. How good it is to sing the words “Here I am Lord. Send me. In the safety of the pew among other believers. Or after having received Christ in the most holy Eucharist! These are the moments that must compel us to move out of our comfort zone, to be willing to go wherever the Holy Spirit leads us to bring Good News of liberation to those who remain captive. CHRISTLIFE will hold a weekend edition of WITNESS+WORD in Hanover, Maryland, on November 4 and 5, 2004. Consider bringing some of your friends to this exciting event. Here we are Lord. Send us! This is a perfect opportunity to allow God to touch our lips with burning embers and teach us to be instruments of His word. We must be willing to say, “Here I am, Lord. Send me into the market place, to the water cooler at my job. Send me, Lord, to my home as a living testimony to your saving power. Send me as a messenger of truth to my school. Any time, anWhere, Lord, send me.” “I have often repeated the summons to the new evangelization. I do so again now, especially in order to insist that we must rekindle in ourselves the impetus of the beginnings and allow ourselves to be filled with the ardor of the apostolic preaching which followed Pentecost.” John Paul II, Novo Millennio Ineunte, # 40 SHARE YOUR FAITH WITH OTHERS IN WITNESS+WORD Mark your calendars for Friday, November 4, and Saturday, November5, and plan to attend WITNESS+WORD- Sharing God's story your way.
