A mission for Catholic Evangelization

December 2003

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

Luke 2:14

The Advent season is upon us. It is a time to draw near to the Lord; a time to prepare our hearts to celebrate the incarnation of God’s divinity with our humanity. The Prince of Peace has come as He promised.
This is a season pregnant with opportunity to bring Christ, the source of all peace, to your families, friends, neighbors, and co-workers!

For most, “peace” is not an accurate description of our state of being during the holiday season. Commercialism masks the true meaning of Christmas. We are caught in a tangled web of over-spending, over-working, over-eating, and over-committing. Shopping, wrapping, baking, entertaining consume us.
The holiday season is filled with pitfalls and possibilities. The pitfall is to be so overwhelmed by the demand to have a fairy tale Christmas that we are oblivious to our brothers and sisters who have wandered away from faith in God or do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior.

The possibilities far outweigh the pitfalls. Is there a more perfect time to speak of a Father who loves so completely that He chose to reveal himself to us as a tiny baby born in poverty and hardship? What better opportunity can there be to tell others about Christ. Imagine more hearts turned toward God, more souls experiencing conversion, more lives changed by one single event -- God became man and lives among us.
Our God is faithful and persistent in His loving call not only to us, but to CEO’s, presidents and kings, migrant workers, secretaries, homemakers, mothers and fathers, businessmen, computer technicians, young and old, rich and poor.

The time is ripe! Rejoice and spread the Good News that Jesus Christ has come to bring freedom and truth to all who call upon Him. A Savior has been born to us. In Him alone we find life, purpose, truth and peace.
We, the team at ChristLife, pray that you and your family have a blessed and holy Christmas!
Your Brother in Jesus,

Dave Nodar

“The star which they had seen in the east went before them, till it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.” Matthew 2:9-10
Wise men earnestly followed this star from a distant land. Though probably men of great wealth and authority, they yearned for more and were willing to travel any distance in search of fulfillment of their deepest longing.
For those who have not yet encountered the love of God, there is a deep longing and hunger to fill the hole of emptiness or nostalgia that gnaws within.

Several years ago, Maya attended an introductory seminar on the basics of Christianity. Maya longed to find meaning and purpose for her life. In the past, Maya visited palm readers and fortune tellers; she studied her horoscope every day. She soon began to investigate world religions -- Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism and others. Maya was willing to do almost anything to feel complete and significant. Christianity was, she thought, merely another stepping stone in her journey to inner peace, purpose, fulfillment and happiness.

There are many today who are searching for and following a star. There are celestial stars in the heavens, patterns of light that hold, for some the promise that life is greater than mere existence.

Others may follow the stardom of a celebrity -- in movies, athletics, politics, etc. Through these stars one might live unfulfilled hopes, dreams and desires through the lens of another person’s fame and fortune.
The Church holds to the word of God in Ephesians 3:8,
“these multitudes have the right to know the riches of the mystery of Christ -- in which we believe that the whole of humanity can find in unsuspected fullness, everything that it is gropingly searching for concerning God, man and his destiny, life and death, and truth.”
Pope Paul VI - Evangelii Nuntiandi, 53

Though we often try to deny it, Jesus entrusted 12 individuals with the responsibility of spreading His Word and building His kingdom. He calls those who know Him to do the same, to carry on the work that He began.
“Although man can forget God or reject him, He never ceases to call every man to seek, so as to find life and happiness.” CCC, 30

What a blessed opportunity we have to share the Gospel, and bring Christ to others during this holy season!
Here are some practical suggestions to prepare for opportunities to witness to Jesus, our Savior.

· Pray daily for the people whom you want to encounter God’s love.
· Ask the Holy Spirit for opportunities to witness.
· Listen for ways to access the door to another’s heart.
· Turn ordinary conversation into a spiritual one.
· Share your story, what God has done for you and in you.
· Purchase a gift that will help a person to know more about Jesus.

Maya’s journey found its fulfillment when she encountered the love of God through his Son and by his Holy Spirit. Imagine where she’d be had there been no witnesses to teach her how to seek the one true God who loves her. †
