‘Discovering Christ’ Conference Responds to Call for a New Evangelization

ELLICOTT CITY, MD (October 12, 2009) - After years of development, including 10 pilot courses, Discovering Christ is ready to make a national impact.

ChristLife, an apostolate of the Archdiocese of Baltimore, will be releasing Discovering Christ to the public at the first Discovering Christ Conference, Nov. 5-6, 2009 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church in Ellicott City, MD.

Discovering Christ is a seven-week evangelizing process, consisting of seven sessions and a retreat day. At each session, participants gather for a meal, worship, teaching about the Gospel and small group discussion.

"There are many parish programs that offer information about Jesus. Discovering Christ is not one of them," said Fr. Erik Arnold, pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church. "It is a relational course designed to bring people into a life-changing encounter with the Lord Jesus."

Over 500 people have gone through the course in parish, campus ministry and small group settings.

But ChristLife has a greater goal for Discovering Christ than a simple program.

"The program is intended not only to bring people into a personal relationship with Christ through the Catholic Church, but also to help parishes develop an evangelizing culture," said Dave Nodar, founder and director of ChristLife.

The feedback from pilot courses has been powerful:

"The fruit that resulted from this course has been impressive," said Fr. Richard A. Gray, chaplain at University of Maryland - Baltimore County. "Several students who confessed to being just 'Sunday Catholics,' have come into a deeper relationship with our Lord and seem more committed to service in the Church."

“I went to confession for the first time in many years.” - Young adult participant

"The first course has brought renewal to the participants in ways that I never imagined," said Fr. Marc Drouin, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Laconia, NH. "They have come to appreciate the power of Christ's love in their lives, and they appreciate the beauty of the mass in celebrating that love..."

“As a Catholic I had never heard you could have a relationship with Christ before Discovering Christ." - Young adult participant

The conference will include training on how to run a Discovering Christ course, a clergy luncheon for interested priests and deacons, opportunities to spend time in prayer and worship, and a venue to connect with other Catholics who are passionate about evangelization.

Rates are $165 for an individual, $140 for a group of 2 or more, and $120 for young adults (18-35).
